About DIW Submariner "Glacial"

Belgian custom watch brand Designa Individual (DiW) continues to explore the design potential of the Rolex Submariner. They recently unveiled the “Submariner Glacial,” which suggests a frosty theme. DiW expands the Submariner’s versatility from underwater to frigid environments, resulting in a completely new appearance.

Based on the 126610LN, DiW re-blasts all stainless steel parts of the watch case and bracelet, presenting a stronger and more rugged sporty feel than the original factory finish. To interpret the glacial theme, the custom watch brand ingeniously changed the ceramic bezel of the watch to white and filled in the 10-minute increment markers with red enamel. The use of red details resembles the equipment worn by explorers, making it easily recognizable in a vast snowy landscape. The visual contrast on the white ceramic bezel of the watch is also very striking.

The Submariner Glacial’s dial is made of gray carbon fiber to complement the case color. The changes to the dial are minimal, with the hour markers, hand shapes, and date magnifier all retained. However, DiW has adjusted the brand logo, series name, and other text in response to the change in dial color from black to gray. For example, the Rolex logo at 12 o’clock has been changed to black, and the “SUBMARINER” text at 6 o’clock has been changed from white to red. An interesting detail is that the “W” in the DiW logo at the same position is painted red, distinguishing it from the other two white letters. The text related to water resistance and top astronomical certification remains white, consistent with the original Submariner.

Another noticeable change is the red paint on the second hand, which emphasizes its compact structure in motion compared to the original design. DiW has essentially used white and gray to depict the local scenery of the glacier, while the addition of red details by the custom watch brand is a stroke of genius. Simply changing to gray and white may have made the watch feel somewhat dull or even lose the special meaning of customization, but with the addition of red details, the entire watch is instantly illuminated, exuding a charming allure that is no less than the original factory design.

Limited to 15 pieces, the Submariner Glacial is priced at 35,990 euros by DiW, which is roughly similar to the prices of other Submariner customization works listed on their official website. Converted to New Taiwan Dollars, it is higher than the secondary market price of the original factory models. Although the materials of the watch remain unchanged, the overall transformation required a great deal of effort, and with such limited availability, it’s understandable why DiW dares to set such a price. After all, special collectibles always attract collectors willing to spend a lot of money to satisfy their desire for rare items.
