About DIW Submariner "Ghost"

Belgian custom brand Designa Individual (DiW) recently created a carbon fiber-style Rolex Submariner called the EOC Submariner. The watch features a sandblasted stainless steel case paired with a carbon fiber bezel and dial, creating a lightweight Submariner with a blend of technology and dynamism. Building on this momentum, DiW has developed another customized piece based on the current version of the Black Submariner 126610LN, naming it the Submariner “Ghost.” Yes, this is a truly black “ghost” watch.

The stainless steel case and bracelet of the Submariner Ghost are coated with black DLC, giving it an all-black appearance. DiW accentuates the bezel with carbon fiber material, highlighting its presence with the irregular patterns of carbon fiber. This component is the most eye-catching part of the watch, as the brand aims for a “stealth” effect with the all-black design. The intention behind naming the watch “Ghost” is not to evoke terrifying supernatural stories, but to achieve invisibility through an all-black design, maintaining a discreet style akin to reaching into the darkness at night, leaving a profound impression without seeking attention.

The dial, case, and bracelet of the watch are all designed in black, with DiW removing the hour markers and retaining only the scale on the edge of the dial, as well as the hour, minute, and second hands, and the brand logo and series name at 12 and 6 o’clock (all in white). The magnified date display at 3 o’clock remains unchanged, maintaining the iconic design of the Submariner.

Removing all hour markers results in a much cleaner dial, leaving ample space above and below the 12 and 6 o’clock positions—this is the design purpose of the Submariner Ghost: to simplify the design as much as possible, leaving behind a purely black appearance and achieving invisibility in the darkness.

Despite its almost all-black appearance, creating the Submariner Ghost was no easy task for DiW. The brand states that it takes about 22 weeks to create this customized piece, making it a rare find with only 10 pieces available. With a price tag of 36,990 euros, or over a million Taiwan dollars, acquiring a Black Submariner 126610LN at this price point suggests that the wearer’s intention is not to go unnoticed by others, despite the name and design aiming for understatement.
