About DIW Submariner "Parakeet"

Belgian custom watch brand Designa Individual seems to be very interested in gradient dials lately, as they have created the Submariner Parakeet, a unique Green Submariner piece with a green-to-black gradient dial, combining Rolex’s iconic green with trendy black for a visually captivating modified version of the original Green Submariner.

▲ Watch Name – Parakeet: Named after a bird known for its colorful plumage, with green being the primary hue. Taking inspiration from the bird’s feathers, DIW infuses the dial with a lush green tone, creating a striking visual feature.

The stainless steel case and bracelet undergo DLC blackening and matte treatment, while the bezel is made of carbon fiber. The irregular pattern of the carbon fiber bezel contrasts naturally with the matte black of the case and bracelet. Additionally, the brand applies a vibrant green color to the markings on the bezel every 10 minutes, which stands out prominently against the dark carbon fiber bezel.

Apart from the trendy black case, bracelet, and carbon fiber bezel, the highlight of the Submariner Parakeet is its dial color. DIW referenced the coloration of the parakeet’s feathers, carefully selecting a bright and vibrant green tone and hand-painting the dial to achieve the gradient effect. The transition of colors from light to dark green is a testament to the brand’s expertise, as achieving such a natural gradient requires intricate craftsmanship and skill.

The successful green gradient effect achieved on the dial sets the Submariner Parakeet apart. While the color variations of the Green Submariner 116610LV were previously only visible under certain lighting conditions and angles, the Submariner Parakeet captures these variations directly on the dial. Additionally, DIW enhances the watch’s personality by painting the second hand green and changing the “SUBMARINER” text at 6 o’clock to gold.

After the transformation, only 15 revamped Black Green Submariners are available, priced at €36,990, roughly three times the price of the standard Green Submariner. This high price reflects the numerous challenges involved in the modification process and the rarity of the release, ensuring that owners receive a sense of satisfaction and reward commensurate with the significant investment.
