Introduction of the New Submersible Luna Rossa PAM01579
Unveiling at Milan Design Week 2024, the Submersible Luna Rossa PAM01579 showcases Panerai’s cutting-edge craftsmanship and its ongoing collaboration with the Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli team. Designed by Panerai’s Laboratorio di Idee at their Neuchâtel manufacture, this timepiece will be introduced at Casa Panerai and Panerai’s pop-up at Milano Rho Fiera during the event, where the brand serves as Official Timekeeper. Initially available exclusively in Italian boutiques, it will see a worldwide release in June 2024.
Inspired by the innovation and competitive spirit of sailing, the PAM01579 features a 42mm brushed steel case with a unidirectional rotating bezel in black matte ceramic. Ceramic is favored for its superior scratch resistance compared to metal, making it highly durable against impacts and wear. This robust bezel complements the steel case, ensuring the Submersible Luna Rossa is up for any challenge, whether racing across the sea or diving to depths of 300 meters (30 bar). Each watch undergoes rigorous testing to withstand pressures 25% greater than its guaranteed water resistance.
The watch is driven by the reliable P.900 automatic movement, offering a 3-day power reserve. With a diameter of 28mm and a thickness of just 4.2mm, the P.900 is one of the slimmest automatic movements in Panerai’s collection. Its bidirectional oscillating weight ensures efficient energy storage, while the balance wheel, oscillating at 28,800 vibrations per hour, provides precise timekeeping. The movement also features a stop-seconds function for accuracy.
The elegant white grained matte dial is a result of a specialized pressing and finishing process, creating a grainy texture coated with white varnish. The dial, marked with the Luna Rossa logo, features luminous dot and baton hour markers, a date window at 3 o’clock, and a small seconds sub-dial at 9 o’clock for enhanced readability. The hands, treated with Super-LumiNova®, glow in low-light conditions, while the red seconds hand adds a pop of color inspired by the Luna Rossa sailing team’s training boat. The case back is engraved with an image of the iconic Slow Speed Torpedo, symbolizing Panerai’s historic ties to the Italian Navy.
Panerai also introduces an intuitive interchangeable strap system with this model. The first strap features a bi-material design with gray tones and red accents, a nod to Luna Rossa, while the second is a more understated black rubber strap. This innovation allows wearers to effortlessly switch straps for versatility in style and comfort.
