About DIW Submariner "Aquamarine"

Belgian custom watch brand Designa Individual (DiW) has introduced a new modified Rolex Submariner, named “Aquamarine.” From the appearance of the watch, it’s evident that DiW has drawn inspiration from Pantone’s color palette, specifically the Aquamarine hue, which is embellished on the dial and bezel markings. However, rather than being strictly ocean blue, this color also bears a resemblance to the popular Tiffany blue that has been trending in the watch industry over the past year. It’s somewhat of a hybrid style, combining the Submariner with the turquoise color of the previous Oyster Perpetual, infused with DiW’s own creativity, resulting in a captivating Submariner design.

The Submariner Aquamarine is based on the current Submariner (presumably the 126610LN). However, DiW has specially sandblasted and matte-treated the stainless steel case and bracelet, giving them a rugged and masculine appearance distinct from the polished and brushed finish of the original Submariner case and bracelet. Especially up close, the irregular patterns on the watch’s exterior give it a sense of durability and make it less susceptible to minor scratches from inadvertent bumps.

DiW has replaced the bezel of the Submariner Aquamarine with carbon fiber, a material frequently used by the brand recently. Compared to ceramic, carbon fiber bezels are characterized by their lightweight nature and rich visual texture. The unique patterns on the surface provide a distinct decorative effect. The original platinum-plated numbers and markings on the bezel have been filled with aquamarine color, acting as a preview for the color change on the dial.

In line with the watch’s name, DiW carefully selected the aquamarine color from the color palette (though many would prefer to call it Tiffany blue directly). Compared to the original black Submariner, the main change DiW has made is the replacement of the dial color, including the luminescent material on the hour markers and hands, as well as the branding and series text at 12 o’clock, which remain white. However, DiW has added its own logo at 6 o’clock and changed the “SUBMARINER” text in the same position to black, making it stand out prominently against the aquamarine dial.

This limited edition Submariner Aquamarine, which joins the trend of Tiffany blue dials, is limited to 15 pieces. DiW’s price tag is 34,990 euros, which is quite remarkable for a stainless steel dive watch, exceeding the million-dollar threshold when converted to New Taiwan Dollars. However, the uniqueness of the watch and the appeal of its dial color may justify the high cost, making it a worthwhile investment for enthusiasts.
